Does men’s health have an impact on fertility?

IVF experts of the best IVF clinic in Ghaziabad – Gunjan IVF World share valuable information about men’s health and how it impacts their fertility through this blog article.

There is a very popular saying ‘a healthy outside starts from the inside.’ This holds true for all. Staying healthy is an important factor for a long life. But, when it comes to focusing on their health, men seem to always stand at the end of the queue. Read this article by IVF experts of the best IVF center in Delhi – Gunjan IVF World to know how men’s health is directly related to infertility.

Does a man’s health have an impact on his fertility?

“Most men tend to make health their least or the last priority… as they fail to understand its importance. It would be surprising for you to know that 40% of men never go for routine health check-ups. Even if they go, only 19% of the men get it done because of a nagging family member or spouse,” said Dr. Gunjan Gupta, leading Gynaecologist Ghaziabad and Medical Director & Founder of Gunjan IVF World – the best IVF centre in Ghaziabad. Gunjan IVF World is North India’s most awarded IVF clinic chain with highly advanced clinics in Ghaziabad, Janakpuri, Meerut and Noida.

“And the reason why men ignore such routine check-ups is because they fear that the doctor might suggest them to stop smoking, reduce alcohol consumption, eat healthy, go for exercises, etc. But, they fail to understand that by not following the above instructions they are inviting health ailments,” added Dr. Garima Sharma, Centre In-Charge and Consultant at Gunjan IVF World – the best-known IVFR clinic in Janakpuri.

Listed below are some health conditions that have an impact on a man’s fertility.

Hormonal imbalance: “Imbalances in the male hormone testosterone and other hormones can impact the functioning of a man’s reproductive system. And how does it impact fertility? Well, hormonal imbalances can impact the morphology of the sperm, lead to poor sperm quality and decreased sperm production,” says Dr. Anshu Dhar, Consultant of a celebrated IVF clinic in Indirapuram – Gunjan IVF World, who else.

Diabetes: “Diabetes can lead to erectile dysfunctions and ejaculation issues. Not just that, it can also cause problems with ductal transport of sperm thereby leading to male infertility,” commented Dr. Shubhda Gupta, Consultant at Gunjan IVF World, famous IVF centre in Noida.

Genetic factors: The primary types of genetic disorders causing male infertility are cystic fibrosis gene mutation, chromosomal abnormalities in number, Y chromosome microdeletions of genes, Noonan syndrome and chromosomal translocations.

Thyroid issues: “Thyroid problems can also lead to male infertility. Hyperthyroidism in which there is excess production of thyroid hormones usually leads to decreased semen volume and reduced sperm density, morphology and motility. On the other hand, the condition of hypothyroidism, where there is lesser number of thyroid hormones, often leads to low sperm count, poor semen quality, reduced testicular function and erectile dysfunction,” stated Dr. Aastha Raheja, Consultant at a famous IVF Center in Ghaziabad – Gunjan IVF World.

Autoimmune disorders: Anti-sperm antibodies are certain proteins which are produced by the body against the sperm and which are capable of killing the sperm. They are produced in response to certain kinds of testicular injury like biopsy, vasectomy or any kind of infection.

Overweight: “In men, being overweight can lead to the conversion of male hormone testosterone into the female hormone estrogen which can adversely affect fertility. At the same, because of obesity or being overweight, there can be an increase in the scrotum temperature which can impair the production of semen and sperm. In addition to all the effects of being overweight on infertility, weight issues are also linked to the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cancer,” mentioned Dr. Gunjan Gupta.

Varicocele: Varicoceles is the swelling of the veins in your scrotum. It is often associated with fertility issues. It can cause a swelling in the scrotum and at the same time dull aching pain in the testicles. Sometimes they are asymptomatic. However, it may be related to fertility issues.
