There are many couples around the world today who are not been able to conceive a child naturally. That’s why they all look forward to an alternative to the same by either doing it via IVF treatments or by Surrogacy or by another way.
Surrogacy as a process involves insemination of the male sperm into the uterus of the surrogate mother who then carry the embryo of a child till its birth for the Intended parents.
Pre-Requisites for being a Surrogate mother
Moreover, there are some pre-requisites to be a Surrogate mother and the women first needs to be a Biological mother of at least one healthy child already. Additionally, she must be having some real interest in helping the couples with the same.
Also, the surrogate mother shouldn’t be older than her Mid-thirties, and should be having a sound mental and physical health. If the women fulfill all these conditions, then she is required to file an application to a fertility clinic to get started with the process.
Types of Surrogacy and related processes
Surrogacy is generally of two types, conventional and gestational and both of them works in different dimensions altogether.
Traditional Surrogacy – In this situation, the surrogate mother first gets unnaturally inseminated with the semen of the baby’s biological father. Here, the sperm is first implanted into her uterus procedurally and then the child gets developed in her womb. In this type of traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother gets regarded as the biological mother of the child whiles the father and his partner here will be termed as Intended parents.
Gestational Surrogacy – This type of Surrogacy is totally different from the Traditional Surrogacy as during the Traditional Surrogacy, the Surrogate mother gets inseminated with intended Father’s Semen and the Intended mother don’t have a role to play in the process, whereas Gestational Surrogacy involves both of the Intended parents and the surrogate mother. There are also women who would still wish to be a biological mother, even when they can’t conceive. This process is called gestational surrogacy. For this purpose, in vitro fertilization is brought in use where eggs are first gathered from the women who couldn’t conceive but still wants to be the biological mother of the child. These eggs, along with sperm collected from the baby’s biological father, will then be put into the uterus of the surrogate mother. From that point onwards, the surrogate mother will carry the child in her womb till the child gets born.
